All paths have always taken Priscilla Campos, 30, back to art. The actress, who became known for starring in the series “Teca na TV” (Futura, 1997-2009), is now working to consolidate herself as a country singer and does not hide her desire to return to the small screen. “My focus is to fully live off my art.”
The artist was eight years old when she joined the series in which she starred in the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Then she was part of the cast of “Gente Inocente” (Globo, 2000-2002), “Floribella” (Band, 2005-2006) and “Malhação” (Globo, 1999). A trajectory that makes him very proud. “Some people say, ‘Wow, you wasted your whole childhood recording,’ but no, I did exactly what I wanted to do.”
At that time, Priscilla was already interested in the life of a singer and at the age of 13 she made presentations accompanied by her parents in Rio de Janeiro, the city where she was born. Commitments to TV, however, ended up putting his music career in the background. “That was until I was 16 years old, then I dropped everything for a while. I converted and became very fanatical in the church and closed several doors for myself.”
The resumption of her artistic career took place in 2016, when Priscilla was already 24 years old. At the time, she opted for the sertanejo for a combination of factors. “It was when feminejo exploded, with Maiara and Maraisa, Marília Mendonça… Besides, my grandfather always gave me this backcountry background, and I was married to a person who was very fond of rhythm too”, she says in an interview with F5.
There was no national record, but the following year, Priscilla was already able to live exclusively from music, but the financial crisis arrived, then the pandemic and she was forced to divide her time with a job in the commercial area. “Sometimes I get desperate and I blame myself for having dropped it back there, because I think I should be somewhere else. But everything has a purpose.”
Now, the singer, who already has an authorial single called “Eu Mereço Mais”, is preparing an EP for next year, which will mix female empowerment and suffering. Not even the arrival of her daughter, Maitê, born in 2018, takes her focus away. “It’s hard to have to give up moments with her, especially on weekends, because I work, but I’m fully aware that I do everything for her, in the first place.”
Below, the artist comments more about her inspirations in music, future projects for acting and motherhood. Check out edited excerpts from the interview.
How important has Teca been in your career?
The Futura channel formed me. I started recording when I was 8 years old. In the test it was already a big challenge, I memorized a text of four double-sided pages. I take a lot from Teca to this day, she is very open, friendly and curious. I have a tattoo of a Teak clapperboard on TV. To this day people recognize me.
You put your artistic career aside for a while. Why this choice?
I was converted at the time and became very fanatical in the church. I closed several doors for myself, I disappeared. I turned down a role in ‘Malhação’, even as the protagonist. I really want to go back to acting, I really miss the studio, recording and acting. I don’t close any doors to acting.
Do you have a role you’d like to play?
My dream was always to be a villain, even when I was a witch I was good. I made a little witch called Lua Cheia, in ‘Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo’, daughter of Morgana who was Elizabeth Savalla. I kept fighting the mother because she was mean. I wanted to show another aspect.
In your music career, what are your main inspirations?
My biggest diva in life is Beyoncé. Beyoncé and Sandy for me it’s over, forget it. Within the sertanejo, it’s Marília Mendonça, it always will be. Besides them, there’s Adele and Amy Winehouse.
Would you like to sing other rhythms besides the sertanejo?
Yup. I love R&B and jazz. I’m very eclectic, I like music. The sertanejo gives me the possibility to act on stage, because they are very crazy and cheesy stories in the best sense of the word. That’s what I think is amazing. But I would love to have a project more focused on what I listen to in my daily life, R&B, jazz, even trap. This was after I signed up for the sertanejo.
In your social networks, you show motherhood a lot. How important is it?
Maitê changed everything in my life, she is the priority of everything. We only discover what love is even after we are mothers. She is very similar to me, she is very artistic. I even joke that I wish she was something else, because this life is very painful. But she loves singing, music, accompanying me to shows. Whenever there are places I can take it, I take it. I got divorced this year, and her dad is super present and plays his role. We managed to maintain the partnership. I have a lot of help from my support network too, my mother, sister and father… because father is not a support network, father is father.
Do you have new projects?
I have a few projects on paper regarding presentation and acting, but my stuff. One of them is the return of my YouTube channel, but in another format, before I did covers. The acting project is still very much in the sketch itself. And I want to go back to television, but that’s not up to me. I’m just running around outside.
