The ’00s hairstyle is here again

The Pouf Hairstyle is here again. Yes, the one you remember in the company of the almost-disappeared eyebrows, low-rise jeans with a skirt over them and Mean Girls.

A much-loved hair trend from the ’00s is back. And it is none other than the Pouf Hairstyle.

Yes, the one you remember with the almost-disappeared eyebrows, low-rise jeans with skirts on top and Mean Girls. Fashion is known to go in circles and slowly the oldest trends come back and we adopt them with a more modern touch.

But what is the Pouf hairstyle?

Look at any red carpet from the early 2000s and you’ll see plenty of celebrities rocking it, including Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen sisters.

Of course these were also inspired by the 1960s like Amy Winehouse who was characterized by this iconic hairstyle, while Zooey Deschanel made this retro hairstyle part of her persona.

Now, the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic has reminded us that Priscilla Presley’s attitude has inspired many to try a modern version of the pouf hair trend.

Influencers, models and Gen Z It-girls are turning to the trend now, flooding their Instagram to get us to try it out in 2022. Celebs like Bella Hadid and Devon Lee Carlson have both rocked it hair look in various posts on Instagram, so they give us the approval to officially consider it one of the fall hair trends and to dare it too.

How to do it?

Luckily, the technique is easier than you might think – no styling experience required. Usually, it is done with either straight hair or tight curls. Once you’ve chosen your hair style, take one section, about two 5cm wide, from the middle of your hairline and gather a small triangular section of hair.

Next, flip the hair back so that the direction of the hair is away from the face and towards the back of the head.

Then, the trick to nailing the trend is to twist the hair firmly and gently push the twist back towards the face to create a puff in the hair. Secure the twist to the rest of the hair with some bobby pins (or a barrette) e voilà, a pouf look that would rival that of Hilary Duff.

Try to get an equal and symmetrical amount of hair for the grip, for an even result, and if your hair is not freshly washed or generally lacks volume, prefer to apply a little dry shampoo to the root first. As a final step, a little spraying with your favorite hairspray is necessary to keep them stable.
