London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the city after 22 years

Crowned with the historic and world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Londonwhich on Thursday 13 October 2022 returns after 22 years to the “Music Friends Hall”, the Thessaloniki Music Hall Organization designed, prepared and implemented a multi-dimensional, multi-collective and daring high-level program.

“With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, we are emphasizing great collaborations with big names in music and dance, in impressive productions with the participation of artistic figures of worldwide renown”, emphasized, during today’s press conference, the chairman of the Board of Directors. Vassilis Gakis, while the “practical” support of the ministry, as he underlined, was also mentioned by the artistic director of the MMTH Christ of Galilee.

The winter program of the MMTH, which premieres on September 16, includes great collaborations with big names in music and dance, impressive productions, leading artists, dedicated circles, the International Chamber Music Festival and the Baroque Music Festival.

On Saturday, October 8, the iconic John Malkovich will present the project “The Music Critic”, with the well-known actor playing the role of the bad critic, who thinks that the music of Beethoven, Chopin, Prokofiev and so many others is just boring and sad. The evening closes with Malkovich’s Torture, a scathing review once written about him.

Also, Manolis Mitsias (Friday 4/11), Margarita Zorpala and Apostolos Rizos will be on the stages of the Thessaloniki Music Hall, who will sing Mano Loizos (Sunday 6/11), Nikos Portokaloglou (Sunday 27/11), while on Saturday, December 17, the dedicated cycle to the 100 years of memory from the Asia Minor Disaster is completed in a concert with Eleni Vitalis, Sofia Papazoglou, Costas Triantafyllidis and TAKIM.

In the winter artistic program of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, the organization of the first one stands out International Chamber Music Festival with special moments the presence of the greatest virtuoso violinist according to Herbert von Karajan, Gidon Kremer (Monday 28/11) and the artistic director of O.M.M.Th. Christos Galilea (Saturday 11/19), as well as the famous string quartet Pacifica Quartet (Saturday 11/26) which has won two Grammy awards.

Also continuing are the 5th Baroque Music festival, the collaborations with leading cultural institutions of Thessaloniki (DIMITRIA, State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, Friends of Nea Paralia), the promotion of new musical talents, the 12th Contemporary Music workshop, and the Christmas events (festive concert with the PAMAK Orchestra and Choir, Janoska Ensemble, the “Lazy Dragon”, The Italian Tenors sing with MOYSA).

The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Megaro Music Hall of Thessaloniki-MOYSA will have a leading role in the Megaro’s new program this year, as it participates in many of its productions, while on September 29 it will collaborate with the leading soloists Giorgos Emmanouil Lazaridis and Vassilis Varvaresos. “Such experiences are very important for the children and emphasize the educational character of the Palace, which is one of the highest priorities of the Organization” said Mr. Galilaias

The MMTH is a lever for the promotion of cultural tourism

The vision of the people of Megaros to strengthen its image in Greece and abroad was mentioned at length by Mr. Gakis, emphasizing that events such as the concert of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London also aim to strengthen its recognition in the Balkan hinterland, the promotion of cultural tourism and the city of Thessaloniki.

Cooperation between the O.M.M.Th. and the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind

In the meantime, a cooperation protocol will be signed tomorrow, Thursday, by the O.M.M.Th. and the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind, opening up new perspectives and possibilities in the matter of the Palace’s accessibility. The Protocol will be co-signed by the president of the Palace and the administration and the president of the Board of Directors. of KEAT Sofia Hamonicolaou, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, responsible for Welfare and Social Solidarity Domnas Michailidou and the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, responsible for modern culture Nikolas Giatromanolakis.

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall saves energy

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall proceeded with interventions in the lighting system, replacing the conventional lamps with modern ones of the Led type, in the foyer of the “Maurice Saltiel” hall, in the garden lighting, in the lighting of the external windows and in the external lighting, to highlight the M1 building , keeping up with the needs of the time due to the energy crisis and intensifying its energy upgrade efforts, so that it becomes more environmentally friendly.
