Located on the west bank of the Hudson River in New York, the Socrates Zaferiou Housea rare mid-century home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is being sold by Sotheby’s for $1.5 million.

Surrounded by a densely wooded park, the one-story home is one of nine prefab units designed by the famed architect in the mid-1950s for Marshall Erdman as part of the Clausland Mountain Park housing development in Blauvelt. The home’s floor plan has been converted and features an additional bedroom and high-ceilinged basement with separate entrance added at Zaferiou’s request.

“Wright is considered one of America’s most prolific and influential architects and played an important role in the development of mid-century houses. His visionary work, spanning more than seven decades, has cemented his place in the American Institute of Architects as “the greatest American architect of all time,” noted Richard Ellis and Brandon Wagner of Ellis Sotheby’s International Realty. “This is a very special house that should have a place in architectural history because of its provenance and impressive architectural design,” they added.
