The book “My own Lefkada” by Ilias Georgakis will be presented in Patras

Among other things, the new book by Ilias Georgakis includes a long travelogue in Lefkada with historical, touristic and folkloric references to each village and town, hundreds of nicknames of the town’s residents and historical and folkloric elements.

The new book of the journalist-author Ilias Georgakis, with Title “My Lefkada” (fagottobooks editions) will be presented on Friday, October 21 at 6 p.m in the multipurpose hall of the Municipality of Patreon – Agora Argyri, Ag. Andreou 12.

The following will speak at the event: Hara Yiannopoulou (author-architect-urban planner), Panagiotis Kavvadas (former Member of Parliament, former regional governor of Western Greece) and Angeliki Perdikari (philologist-poet). The presentation will be moderated by the journalist Panagiotis Theodorakopouloswhile excerpts from the book will be read by the actors: Elias Logothetis and Maria Zahari.

Members of club of Lefkadio Patras they will sing carols, while the organization of the presentation has been undertaken by the Lefkadian Association of Patras and fagottobooks publications.

The new book by Ilias Georgakis includes:
-A large trek in Lefkada with historical, touristic and folkloric references to each village and town.
-Hundreds of city residents’ nicknames.
-Historical and folklore elements.
– Manners, customs and traditions.
-Rare words and expressions from the Lefkada language idiom.
-Thirty pranks and humorous stories of the old inhabitants of the city (the so-called buranellos).
-Special tributes to Lefkadio Hern, to Karsani embroidery, to the traditional products of the island, to local cuisine and to Lefkada wine.
-Rare old photos.
-Poems of the author about Lefkada.

Ilias Georgakis is a journalist at the newspaper “TA NEA” (since 1983) and writer. He was born (1960) and grew up in Lefkada. He studied journalism. Covers reporting on insurance and employment issues. In 2004 he was honored with the Botsi Journalism Promotion Foundation Award. In 2005 he was awarded for his journalistic contribution against racism and xenophobia, in the context of the EQUAL community initiative. He has published 4 poetry collections with the titles: “Sea Elegy”, “To Allo Ble”, “Orfeos 2” (ANKYRA publications), and “Dancing the Reds” (ANKYRA publications). His lyrics have been set to music by well-known Greek composers.
