Kyiv responds to Putin on martial law: “Nothing changes, we continue the liberation of our territories”

“The introduction of “martial law” in the territories occupied by Russia should only be considered a pseudo-legalization of the looting of Ukrainian property,” replies Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser, Mykhailo Podoliak

Ukraine’s response was immediate shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin made an incendiary move by signing a decree imposing martial law in the four annexed regions.

“We continue with the liberation and reoccupation of our territories” he underlined Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser, Mikhail Podoliak.

“The establishment of “martial law” in Russian-occupied territories should only be considered a pseudo-legalization of the looting of Ukrainian property. Nothing changes for us: we continue the liberation and reoccupation of our territories” he noted in particular on Twitter.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin declared martial law in the four Ukrainian regions annexed by Moscow last month – Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson – and added that all Russian provinces should impose “measures to secure critical facilities”.

A decree also issued restricts movement in and out of Russian regions bordering Ukraine.

These measures concern Krasnodar, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk and Rostov Oblasts, which border Ukraine, as well as Crimea and Sevastopol, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The moves, nearly eight months into the war, mark the latest escalation by Putin to counter a series of defeats the Russian military has suffered at the hands of Ukrainian forces since early September.

Putin said the measures he ordered would boost the stability of the economy, industry and production to support the Russian invasion of Ukraine that Moscow calls a special military operation.
