It’s already been over 20 years since the first movie Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) hit theaters, and the recent anniversary has sparked renewed interest in the film series based on the popular novels by author J. K. Rowling.

The British actor Tom Feltonwho played Draco Malfoy in eight films of the Harry Potter franchise, wrote his memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, and made a rather strange revelation!

In his long-awaited memoir, Felton details how Radcliffe used a… photograph of Cameron Diaz to help him film his flying scenes, due to the fact that Diaz has long been the young actor’s famous…capsule!

According to a Variety report, Tom Felton describes in his new memoir how fellow countryman Radcliffe stuck a photo of the beautiful actress in… a tennis ball during the filming of the famous flying broomstick scenes, in order for the young actor to focus on anything but a tennis ball(!)

Tennis balls were used in the early days of visual effects as a basis for other objects that would later replace them, such as dragons or, in the case of Harry Potter, the magical quidditch balls. Many of the actors shooting scenes in the heroic era of the first films of the Harry Potter franchise had little to no experience in acting using visual effects, so distractions like a celebrity photo helped Radcliffe focus on… the game.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit theaters in 2001 and started a wave of successful films that continues to this day with the film series Fantastic Beasts, with dizzying profits exceeding $7.7 billion.
