Next Tuesday (14), the documentary series “The Spice Girls’ Revolution” will premiere on GNT, shown in September in the United Kingdom and unprecedented in Brazil. In three episodes, the production reveals the backstage of the pop band formed by British singers Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C, in 1996, as well as the main challenges they face.
Produced by 72 Films and distributed by BBC Studios, the series presents the history of the formation of the Spice Girls, one of the most successful girl groups in the history of pop music, and shows how they became global icons.
The documentary also deals with issues such as tiredness due to the excessive work routine, eating disorders experienced by some members, misogyny and prejudice they faced for being women and the scandals in which they became involved.
The attraction will be shown throughout the week, on the 14th, 15th and 16th of December, at 23:30h, at GNT.
With exclusive testimonials from relevant names in the group’s trajectory, such as manager Chris Herbert, and videos and archive images of the members, the production seeks to explain how the Spice Girls remain known to this day.
In 2021, the singers would tour in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of “Wannabe,” a song that leveraged the Spice Girls’ success and marked the group’s debut, but had to cancel because of restrictions from the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the British newspaper The Sun, they failed to earn £ 4 million, about R$ 29.6 million.
Despite the unforeseen, the group released an EP in July with new versions of classics including “Feed Your Love”. They also created a campaign inviting fans to post videos dancing to the birthday song.
“The Spice Girls Revolution” will also be available on Globoplay from the 14th, with dubbing and subtitle option.
