Fourth case of omicron in SP is a patient who has not traveled abroad

by

The State Department of Health confirmed this Saturday afternoon (12) the fourth case of omicron variant of the new coronavirus in São Paulo. The infected person is a 67-year-old man from the city of São Paulo, who has not traveled abroad, unlike in previous cases, involving people from Africa.

According to the João Doria government (PSDB), the patient has a complete vaccination schedule and took the booster dose with Pfizer. He only felt mild symptoms like chills.

“The patient had a positive diagnosis for Covid-19 on December 7, after performing a PCR test and his sample was submitted to genetic sequencing, having the omicron as a result. He is performing home isolation,” the government said.

The health surveillance of the Municipal Health Department is looking for people who may have had contact with the patient. One relative has already been tested and tested negative for Covid-19.

“It is still not possible to confirm whether the situation configures local transmission, precisely because this mapping of contacts is in progress,” stated the state secretariat in a note.

The previous cases were also with the complete vaccination schedule and reported mild or asymptomatic symptoms.

The last imported confirmation took place on the 1st and refers to a 29-year-old man, who was tested when disembarking in Brazil at the airport in Guarulhos, a city where he was monitored by the Municipal Surveillance.

The other two are a missionary couple, a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman. They landed in Guarulhos, on the 23rd, from South Africa. Both went to a laboratory at the airport terminal and tested positive for the Covid. The two were tested last Wednesday (8) and were able to leave isolation, according to the Municipal Health Department.
