Mariana Rios says she is experiencing an ‘artistic transformation’ at the Show dos Famosos

by

The actress and singer Mariana Rios, 36, has impressed the judges of the Show dos Famosos, on the program Domingão com Huck (Globo), and has been moving the web with her presentations in the competition. She has performed musically to honor Lady Gaga, Elba Ramalho, Katy Perry and Alanis Morissette, among others.

Mariana says that the choice of the artist to be honored is made in conjunction with the production of the program. She explains that she presents her ideas, the production evaluates and gives several tips on how to build the character. “The final word is mine, we all [competidores] we have this freedom.”

She says the characterization — including makeup, hair and clothing — takes at least four hours, and that participants uncut the performance, imitating the artist’s voice. According to her, the most difficult performance to make was that of singer Barry Gigg, from the group Bees Gees, singing “Stayin’ Alive”.

The actress claims that it was very complicated to sing in another vocal region and even putting her mouth inside to look like the singer. “I walked offstage with a cramp in my cheek, but it’s so much fun, so gratifying when you see you can do it,” says the actress, laughing and mimicking Gigg’s voice.

The artist was also impressed with the care of the production in her tribute to the singer Katy Perry. According to her, the team thought about the smallest details, from the costume, wig and contact lens to the vocal transformation. “[Eu tive que] study the body, same thing with the Bees Gees. Doing something completely different from you is really cool,” says the actress.

She admits that she never thought that she would have so much fun and indulge in making this painting of Huck’s Domingão. For her, it has been an opportunity to learn every week with teachers in singing, body language and characterization classes. “I wanted to take everyone to my house,” he says, laughing.

Mariana says that it’s a dream for every artist to be able to interpret something that leaves their comfort zone, especially with this whole apparatus that involves the program. She reveals that she had already received invitations to participate in the Show dos Famosos, in the former Domingão do Faustão, but she was always forced to say no due to other professional commitments. “I have to be very grateful for this opportunity [que o Luciano me deu]. It really was an artistic transformation for me to make this program.”

The actress says she has no problem receiving criticism from the judges because, even getting a ten, she will always charge herself if she doesn’t like the performance itself. “I think that [a competição] that’s what it’s for, listening to people, filtering and seeing what works for you and what doesn’t, it’s all right. And also absorb what is good for you.”

For the actress, when a person goes to a show in a frame like this to be judged, they need to be open to everything. “The other’s opinion is the other’s. Not everything you’re going to do [as pessoas] they’ll like it, but the main thing in my head is that I like it. I need to like it because it’s me at the end of the day.”

About the contestants, the artist says that it was the strong cast that made her accept Luciano Huck’s invitation to participate in the painting. “We have strong names there and everything I do [no meu trabalho] I usually get involved and surrender. I really wanted to be part of this story.”

The actress says that she doesn’t see the participants as competitors because she is a “zero competitive” person. Mariana says that it doesn’t matter who wins, what she really wants is to stay on the show to make the most of the characters she has programmed. “It’s so nice to be there with everyone. I’m having a lot of fun, I’m very happy with everything and living this moment immersed.”

Despite being a competition, the actress says that behind the scenes everything is very fun, light and that everyone is nice. She says that it’s so nice to make the changes that she can’t believe that the competition will soon be over. “Artistically speaking, it gave me a boost in another way. I started to get a lot of ideas about what I want to do next year at my shows, much on top of what I accomplished there.”

In January, the singer enters the studio to record an EP, with songs composed by her and in partnership with composer friends, and intends to make music videos for all of them. At the same time, the series “Back to 15” debuted on Neftlix, in which she participated and in which she should begin recording a second season. “In January, I come back crazy because I already have a demand for many shows for the next year.”

Born in Araxá (MG), Mariana started singing at the age of 7, at 10 she had her first band and never stopped singing. She has already released CD and an EP with songs to praise God. “I am a Kardecist Spiritist, I pray every day and I talk to God all the time. In this moment that we have gone through and are going through [com a pandemia] this connection to the universe is important.”

Before participating in the Show of the Famous, the actress was highly praised during her participation in the reality musical SuperStar (Globo), in 2017. Since then, the actress believes that she has matured a lot, becoming a less anxious and stressed person. “Today I’m completely different even because of the things that happen in our life. We’re maturing, time does that as long as you’re on this quest.”
