Meghan Markle was born in Los Angeles, United States, and a few years ago discovered in a genealogy test that she is 43% Nigerian. Prince Harry’s wife revealed her discovery just now in the latest episode of her “Archetypes” podcast, which aired on Tuesday (1). She also revealed that she intends to delve deeper into the subject in the future.
The revelation came during a chat with comedians Issa Rae and Ziwe Fumudoh, who is Nigerian-American: “I did my genealogy a few years ago… [Sou] 43% Nigerian. I’m going to start digging deeper into all of this because anyone I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, has been intrigued.”
“This is huge for our community,” replied Ziwe, shocked by the information about Meghan’s ancestry. “And wow, honestly, you look like a Nigerian, you look like my Aunt Uzo. So that’s great!” added the comedian.
Meghan debuted the first episode of her “Archetypes” podcast on Spotify in August, months after she struggled to get the show’s name registered. The first interviewee was tennis player Serena Williams. Mariah Carey and Mindy Kaling have also been interviewed by Meghan
