The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it banned entry to 100 people, “who are directly involved in the formulation of an aggressive anti-Russian policy”. These individuals include the 60-year-old actor and comedian, Jim Carrey.
Margaret Atwood, author of the dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale,” is also on the list, along with several Canadians of Ukrainian descent.

Russia’s specific decision comes after Canada announced a new round of sanctions against police investigators, prosecutors and judges.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said it decided on the new round of sanctions “in response to the practice, implemented by the Justin Trudeau regime, of imposing sanctions against the Russian leadership, politicians and parliamentarians, business representatives, experts and journalists and other personalities.”
Since the start of the attack on Ukraine on February 24, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,400 individuals and entities in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
