Three awards in Crete from the British: Beach, gastronomy and “desirable island”

The Region of Crete organized two events in London, addressing journalists, tour operators and bloggers – The island was presented as an attractive tourist destination for the whole year and as a gastronomic destination.

With two awards for Crete, the presence of the Region of Crete at the “World Travel Market 2022” International Tourism Exhibition in London was completed, while another award from Britain’s oldest travel magazine followed.

As part of the exhibition, the Greek Travel Awards were given, in a special event organized by the EOT and for which the British tourist market had voted, of which Crete won two: the “Best Beach Destination” award for the island as a whole, which was received by the Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism and Electronic Government Dr. Kyriakos Kotsoglou, as well as the “Best Gastronomy” award won by P.E. Chania and was received by the deputy governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris.

Also, at another event organized at the Tower of London by the oldest British travel magazine, Wanderlust, the awards of the organization of the same name were presented. Crete received the award of the third most desirable island in Europe, an award which was received by the Deputy Governor of Tourism Kyriakos Kotsoglou.

The London tourist exhibition is an annual meeting point for the representatives of the international tourism market and the participation of the Region of Crete took place with a highly aesthetic stand (funded by the NSRF) next to the exhibition space of the Hellenic Tourism Organization. It was also a place for commercial meetings of Cretan businessmen with their partners from the British and international tourist market. Meetings that had been requested by foreign bodies were also held with the representatives of the Region of Crete, through the official website of the organizers.

The Crete stand was visited by the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias and the Secretary General of the EOT Dimitris Fragakis.
