The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, is going to Eastern Libya tomorrow, November 17, where he will have talks with the president of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh Issa, as well as with other Libyan officials.
During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Greek government, will deliver a donation of vaccines against the COVID-19 coronavirus.
During his stay in Benghazi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also attend an event presenting Greece’s contribution to a program of the UN World Food Program (World Food Programme) for the restoration of the Port of Benghazi.
This port is of particular importance as a gateway for humanitarian aid to sub-Saharan Africa to deal with the food crises facing the region.
In addition, the Foreign Minister will have a meeting with the presidency of the Hellenic Community of Benghazi.
The foreign minister’s discussions with Libyan officials during his visit are expected to focus on strengthening Greece-Libya cooperation, always based on respect for International Law and especially the Law of the Sea, on European Union-Libya relations and on the broader developments in Mediterranean region. The constitutional basis for holding elections in Libya as soon as possible is also expected to be discussed.
It is noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Eastern Libya in April 2021.
