The actress and presenter said her recovery from alcohol addiction was one of the most liberating things about her life’s journey

Drew Barrymore she talks about how she’s been feeling since she’s been sober. In a personal essay in Drew magazine, the actress and presenter talks about her relationship with alcohol.

“One of the bravest things you can do is slay your dragons and finally break the vicious cycle you’re stuck in,” she wrote. “For me it was to stop drinking.”

THE Barrymore she said her recovery from alcohol was “one of the most liberating things in my life’s journey” that allowed her to “finally be free from the tortures of guilt and dysfunction”. He also encouraged others to focus on themselves and what they need.

“During the holidays, when we spend so much energy trying to live up to the perfect standards set by the Norman Rockwells of the world, I’d like you to try to remember to give yourself an outlet—a hug—and I’ll try that too,” He wrote. “Take a moment, take a breath and give yourself a big hug. We’re all just doing the best we can. And that in itself is something to celebrate.”

The actress revealed in December 2021 that she had been alcohol-free for two and a half years, detailing her “quiet, confident” journey to sobriety. “It was something that I realized just wasn’t serving me and my life,” she said of her decision to quit drinking.
