The biggest novelty of the 10th season of “Vai que Cola” (Multishow), Katiuscia Canoro, 43, did not have to go to Arabia to play the malandra Nadja, a false xeica (feminine of sheikh) who deals a blow to the characters of the humorous. Although the episodes take place in an unspecified country in the Middle East, they were recorded in Rio de Janeiro itself.

The actress says that she sought information about Arab culture and that she attended a talk with a Muslim woman along with the rest of the cast. “I hope people understand the jokes, and that we don’t offend anyone,” she says. “The Arab community suffers a lot of prejudice. We really have to be careful, especially not to go to that place of religion.”

In the plot, Jessica (Samantha Schmutz) travels with her whole family to marry the supposed prince Omar (Raphael Vianna), whom she met on the internet. Nadja and her brother, Abu-Zélio (Paulinho Serra), are also involved in the setup.

Canoro, best known to the general public for her character Lady Kate on the extinct Zorra Total (Globo), says she doesn’t miss working on open TV. However, she criticizes the lack of humor options on the country’s biggest broadcasters – Globo itself, for example, has not shown new programs of the genre since 2020.

“Companies don’t invest in humor, it’s stupid because humor sells”, criticizes the comedian. “They manage to sell space for commercials and they should do that because people need to laugh. We have wonderful comedians, the best. Brazilians deserve comedy shows [na TV aberta]🇧🇷
