Singer included in the LGBTQIA+ community, Ludmilla revealed through social networks that she accepted an invitation to go to perform in Qatar during the World Cup. However, the decision to go to the country upset part of her public.
That’s because Qatar is a place that scolds LGBTs. Not even the rainbow-colored captain’s badge was allowed during matches. There have already been people expelled from stadiums for demonstrations of this type.
Ludmilla’s announcement came along with the outburst about what she intends to do to help combat homophobia.
“Since I received the invitation, I’ve been thinking about how I could contribute to LGBTQIA+ causes beyond my existence, resistance and everything I represent. For me, it wouldn’t make sense not to give something back to my community, since here Brazil is the country that kills more LGBTQIA+ people,” he said.
Afterwards, she said that she intends to join companies for good causes in 2023. But that did not rid her of criticism. “Shakira and Dua Lipa refused to perform there because of the criminalization of our existence. Why did you decide to go? Couldn’t you support these institutions without going to perform?”, asked one.
“A bunch of conscious artists refusing to go and you are going to help institutions in the form of a protest to Qatar? You are too disappointing,” posted another.
