THE National Gallery – Museum of Alexandros Soutsos opens its doors at Christmas to the public in Athens and the surrounding area, inviting them to holiday tours in the spirit of the days. Proposing a program of festive events addressed to each and every one of us, this year Christmas at OUR Art Gallery we will all have the opportunity to participate in the festive atmosphere, through themed tours, innovative educational programs, festive bazaars and other activities.

In the main building of the Gallery, a separate program in partnership with its frequencies of Hellenic Radio she is waiting for visitors as well as listeners Thursday the 22nd December. But the events do not stop here, as in the run-up to Christmas the educational programs “The Adoration of the Shepherds” and “The birth» propose themed tours for families with children from 3 to 12 years old that introduce young and old to the spirit of Christmas, as captured by some of the greatest creators, while at the same time, through the educational program «Meet Pablo“, children are invited to discover the fascinating universe of Pablo Picasso.

Counting down to the festive day of Christmas, the cycle of themed tours continues with a journey through time under the title “Religious Painting“in the periodical exhibition hall”Antonis Komnenos» but also in the Permanent Collections. From Domenikos Theotokopoulos and “Concert of the Angels” (1608-1614), which announces the joyous message of the birth of the God-man, up to our contemporary Steven Antonakos and the “White iconostasis» (2003), we will see how great artists captured and capture in their works in a unique way the Nativity, the Magi and the magic of Christmas, even though the materials and forms have changed over the centuries.

Also, throughout the holidays at EPMAS store there will be a big bazaar with older as well as new editions at prices up to 70% lower. Through this bazaar the opportunity is given for a different proposal for Christmas gifts, which will allow the cultural wealth of the Gallery to enter every home.

However, because the National Gallery does not exhaust its activity in the capital, original programs await visitors in its local Branches. Realizing the goal of integrating art into the everyday life of society, in Commandery Gallery (Sparta) “already running” the program “Friends and Neighbors” starting with the hairdressing industry, while the training program “Looking for Christmas“, in collaboration with Ephorate of Antiquities of Laconiawelcomes from the 12th and until the 22nd of December our little friends. In the context of this interactive program, children have the opportunity to discover the symbols and music of Christmas through the works of the Gallery, starting with ancient or neoclassical art, to reach, passing through angelic figures of Byzantine art, to even newer ones. projects.

Accordingly, the Annex of Nafplioin collaboration with the visual artist Marina Bobou, will hold on December 17 and 18 festive educational programs for students of Primary and Secondary Education. On December 17, the program is aimed at children aged 9 to 12 years and includes designing Christmas ornaments using interactive methods, while on December 18 children aged 13 to 15 years they will create, based on the visual work of Pavlos Dionysopoulos (environments), ornaments with materials that we find in our everyday life. Also, from December 10 to 30 there will be a book bazaar with the annex editions 50% off.
