“I’m so proud of this book and the message it conveys,” said the legendary country singer.

Legendary country singer Dolly Parton is teaming up with Penguin Young Readers to release a children’s picture book called ‘Billy the Kid Makes it Big’.

The book will be released with illustrations by Mackenzie Haley.

The story features the bulldog, to whom she is godmother, Billy the Kid as the protagonist. “He’s a dog who loves to bark to the beat of country music and plans to be a big music star in Nashville. When Billy encounters bullies in the Battle for the Best Bark he must rely on his friends and the power of his favorite song to regain his confidence,” reads the book’s synopsis.

“I’m so proud of this book and the message it conveys,” Dolly Parton told People. Years ago I wrote the song “Makin’ Fun Ain’t Funny” for my children’s album “I Believe In You”. I wanted the children to understand how harmful bullying can be for someone,” he stressed.

The book will be published by Penguin Young Readers in April 2023 and is aimed at readers aged 4 to 7.

Dolly Parton has also written the children’s books ‘Coat Of Many Colors’ (1994) and ‘I Am A Rainbow’ (2009).
