Clive Davis: Whitney Houston made a valiant effort to get off drugs before she died

Whitney Houston she struggled with her addictions until her death.

The music producer and friend of the singer Clive Daviswho first signed her to a record deal when she was 20 and worked with Whitney throughout her career, told Page Six in an interview that he was shocked to learn of her death in 2012.

“I was with her 48 hours before she died,” Davis shared in an exclusive interview with Page Six, adding, “It never crossed my mind that she would die two days later.”

Houston, who has struggled with drug addiction throughout her life, was in the process of rehab. “He was showing me what he’d done in rehab,” the 90-year-old record producer explained. “How she had quit smoking, how she had cleared her throat of nicotine. And she wanted to start going to the studio … I never would have thought 48 hours before her death, that it would happen, that there would be that horrible, untimely end to her life.”

He also added that “during that period she made a valiant effort to wean herself off drugs and become herself again.”

THE Whitney Houston was found unconscious in a Beverly Hilton suite in a bathtub on February 11, 2012. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office reported her death as accidental and caused by drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.” The results of the toxicology test found various pharmaceutical substances in her blood.
