Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for new anti-Semitic Holocaust remarks

by

Whoopi Goldberg, 67, has become embroiled in a new controversy over the Holocaust. The actress released a statement on Wednesday (28) apologizing for having resumed the speech with anti-Semitic content about the genocide of six million Jews during World War II.

She, who at the beginning of the year said that the persecution of Jews by the Nazis “was not about race”, returned to discuss the issue during an interview published recently in the British newspaper The Times to promote the film “Till – The Quest for Justice. ” “It was never my intention to sound like I was harping on offensive remarks, especially after talking to and listening to rabbis, as well as listening to some friends,” Goldberg began in a statement sent to Variety magazine.

“I tried to convey to the reporter what I had said and why. […] It was never my intention to look like I was resuming offensive comments, especially after talking to and listening to people like rabbis and new and old friends,” he said. The actress reinforced that she is learning about the subject.

“Believe me when I say I’ve been listening to everything. I do believe the Holocaust was about race and I’m sorry I upset, hurt and angered some people. My sincerest apologies again, especially to those who thought I was bringing up the subject. . I swear it wasn’t”, he acknowledged.

Finally, Whoopi stated that she has a commitment against anti-Semitism. “In times of rising anti-Semitism, I want to be clear when I say that I have always been with the Jewish people and always will be. My support for them has not wavered and never will.”

Goldberg had already expressed anti-Semitic views in early 2022, during a debate on “The View”, in which she is one of the hosts. She even ended up being suspended from production. At the time, the actress said: “Let’s be honest, the Holocaust wasn’t about race. It wasn’t about race. It wasn’t about race. It was about inhumanity among men.”

Faced with the repercussions, she made an apology shortly afterwards: “[O Holocausto] it does concern race, because Hitler and the Nazis considered the Jews an ‘inferior race’. Words matter and that goes for mine too. I regretted my comments and am correcting myself. I also express my support for the Jews.”
