The Carioca school Imperatriz Leopoldinense, eight times champion of the Rio Carnival, invited the first lady, Janja, to be the godmother of the association’s Velha Guarda in the 2023 parade. The invitation was made after Janja and the school itself received criticism from youtuber Antonia Fontenelle on social media.
In the stories, Antonia commented on the inauguration of Lula (PT). At one point, she decided to speak ill of Janja’s clothes. Only, for that, she made a comparison of the look with the Rio de Janeiro samba school.
“That’s it. This is the Velha Guarda da Imperatriz Leopoldinense. Apathetic school, it doesn’t stink or smell. It’s the Velha Guarda da Mangueira, Mocidade or Grande Rio. Just by God”, said the youtuber .
The attacks prompted a series of responses not only from the Imperatriz, but from other associations such as Salgueiro, Unidos da Tijuca and Mocidade. “The unfounded attacks by those who do not know the history of Carnival affect not only our Association, but, above all, our community, fans, members and, consequently, the entire world of samba”, posted the Empress.
“After the attacks on the first lady of Brazil and on our Association, we publicly invite dear Janja to parade as godmother of our gallery in the Velha Guarda in the 2023 Carnival”, he concluded.
Janja had not yet answered whether she would accept the invitation. Antonia, wanted, did not comment on the case.
