The Daily Telegraph returns with its main article for another day to the subject of the Parthenon Sculptures

The Daily Telegraph returns with its main article for another day to the subject of the Parthenon Sculptures.
As the British newspaper reports, the British Museum is believed to be in “advanced” talks about sending the “Elginia Marbles” back to Greece.
“Based on the plans reported, drawn up by the (Museum’s) chairman, former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, they would be ‘on loan’ to the Acropolis Museum in Athens, but few expect, when they leave, ever to return to London”, writes the newspaper.
With the loan, the Telegraph then comments, the legal prohibition under which the British Museum is to lend objects from its collection is overcome.
However, the Telegraph’s view is that many Britons rightly feel that national collections have a duty to be preserved intact in perpetuity and that the return of the Sculptures will set a precedent.
“So this cannot simply be left to Mr Osborne and the trustees of the British Museum to decide. It is a matter of national importance: the fate of the Elginian Marbles should be decided by the parliament,” the article concludes.
