German model and actress Tatjana Patitz died at the age of 56, this Wednesday (11). The death was confirmed by the model’s agent to the Daily Mail, but the time and cause were not disclosed. She is part of a select group of supermodels alongside Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.
Born in Germany and raised in Sweden, Patitz entered her first modeling competition at age 17 in Stockholm, coming in third place. But her career took off only in 1988 after an essay by the famous photographer Peter Lindberg – he photographed her over a period of 30 years.
In January 1990, Patitz graced the cover of British Vogue with models Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. In the same year, she was on the cover of the American edition of the publication.
After appearing in Vogue, the model also worked on campaigns for Chanel, Calvin Klein and made more than 130 magazine covers throughout her life. She also starred in the music video for the song “Freedom 90”, by singer George Michael, alongside the same group of models on the cover of the magazine.
Patitz acted in the film “Rising Sun”, alongside Sean Connery, and made several appearances in clips, series and shows.
