Shakira releases music with hints at Piqué; understand the references

Shakira, 45, is not kidding and did not spare criticism for her ex-husband Gerard Piqué in the new song, released this Wednesday (11). In the song, the singer makes it clear that the lyrics talk about the retired player and his supposed new girlfriend, Clara Chía.

With a lot of irony and references, the Colombian says in a certain passage that she is worth “two of 22”, in a reference to Clara’s age. And she sings, “A wolf like me is not for guys like you. I was big and that’s why you’re with someone like you.”

In another part of the song, she again hints that the song is about the new couple by stating that “she is named after a good person, clearly she is just like you”. “I was big and that’s why you’re with someone like you. You thought you hurt me and made me stronger. Women don’t cry anymore, women make money,” she intones.

The composition also quotes the word “pike” and alludes to Gerard’s last name. “I understand that it’s not my fault that they’re criticizing you. I just make music, sorry I spilled it on you.”

But it looks like the song helped Piqué get sponsorship for the Kings League, a soccer competition. A day after the release, the player announced that the watch brand Casio became one of the sponsors.

“We have an agreement with Casio. The Kings League has reached an agreement with Casio,” explained Piqué. In another part of the song, Shakira says “you traded a Rolex watch for a Casio”.

The couple broke up in June last year, after 11 years together, when rumors of the former player’s betrayal began to emerge. The former couple have two children together: Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, who will now live with their mother in Miami, in the United States.
