Marie Kondo admitted that after the arrival of the third child, she no longer follows the very method of organization that made her famous worldwide, in an interview with The Washington Post. She said that now enjoying time with her children is more important than keeping the house tidy.
“My house is messy, but the way I spend my time is right for me at this stage in my life,” said the organization guru after two books and a Netflix series that have influenced the way people organize their homes.
The organization guru’s new philosophy turned into a method to make the most of time and in the book “The kurashi method: how to organize your space to create your ideal lifestyle”. She said that before the move she was a professional cleaner who did everything possible to keep the house tidy. “I’ve given up on that aspect, in a good way. Now the important thing for me is to enjoy time with my kids at home.”
Kondo now encourages readers to ask themselves what they really want to put in order within their own pace of life and small daily activities. With three young children, she proposes a less rigid approach to organizing the house, such as a room that encourages conversation or people buying nice pajamas to sleep better.
But the organization guru herself knows that when her children grow up, her organization method and philosophy of life must change again. “I’ll keep looking inward to make sure I’m leading my own kurashi.”
