McPherson will write the screenplay and direct the film
Chloe Bailey will star in an upcoming film adaptation of playwright Conor McPherson’s musical Girl From The North Country, based on his songs Bob Dylan. According to Variety, Chloe Bailey, of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, will co-star in the film with Olivia Colman and Woody Harrelson.
McPherson will write and direct the Blueprint Pictures-produced film.
The original musical ‘Girl From The North Country’ premiered in London in 2017. Taking its title from Dylan’s 1963 song, the musical is set in 1934 during the Great Depression and centers around innkeepers and travelers in Duluth of Minnesota as their lives intersect.
In the film adaptation, Chloe Bailey will play Marian, the adopted daughter of owner Nick Lane (Harrelson) and his wife Elizabeth (Coleman). The musical uses 19 songs from Dylan’s catalog, including ‘Slow Train’, ‘I Want You’, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Idiot Wind’.
In a statement published in Variety, Bob Dylan said his relationship with McPherson was “one of the highlights of his professional life”.
