Actor defends Bryan Singer’s behavior on set of ‘X2: X-Men United’
Brian Cox defended Bryan Singer’s behavior on the set of the film “X2: X-Men United”. The Scottish actor played William Stryker in the 2003 superhero film directed by Singer, who has since been accused by actors of inappropriate behavior during filming and by several men of sexual harassment.
Bryan Cox said Bryan Singer was “under a lot of pressure” during production, but praised his methods.
“One of the great things about him was that when he got to a new setting, he had to revise it,” Cox said in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. “He would have one thought and then think about the scene again. So this was always going to be a difficult transition for him. But once he found the solution, he could get on with it.” The actor added that he was Singer’s first choice for the role, although the director had to convince the studio to give him the part.
“I think he’s a great director – really, really gifted,” Brian Cox said. “I will certainly always be grateful to him because he trusted me and secured the role for me,” he explained.
Halle Berry, who appears as Storm in the “X-Men” film series, told Variety in 2020 that “Bryan Singer is not the easiest guy to work with.”
“Have Singer’s misconduct and accusations tarnished the legacy of the ‘X-Men’ franchise?” was a question Hugh Jackman received in an interview with The Guardian newspaper. “You know, that’s a really, really complicated question,” Jackman replied. “There are many things at stake there,” he said.
“‘X-Men’ was the turning point, I think, in terms of movies based on comic books and I think there’s a lot to be proud of,” the Australian actor continued. “And there are certainly questions that need to be asked and I think they need to be asked. But I guess I don’t know how to answer this elegantly. I think it’s complicated, and ultimately I look back with pride at what we accomplished and the momentum that started.”
