The last big movie he wanted to direct was ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Director Elizabeth Banks she is interested in speaking through the films with her “own” voice. For this reason, she felt particularly satisfied during the realization of her third film “Cocaine Bear”, as she stated in Variety magazine.

“I can’t do someone else’s vision,” he said. “I really want to bring my sensibility to my works.”

Banks added that she was never particularly interested in diving into a big, established franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The last major franchise film he was really interested in directing was “Thor: Ragnarok,” he said.

Although as she noted, nothing ever happened, even though she reached out to Marvel to pitch her own version of “Ragnarok.”

“Nobody called me back,” he said. “Taika Waititi got the job. Rightfully so,” he added.

Marvel Studios often takes pitches from various directors to find the right perspective with which to ultimately direct their films. To date, four women have directed Marvel Studios films: Anna Boden (with director Ryan Fleck) for 2019’s Captain Marvel, Kate Shortland for 2021’s Black Widow, Chloe Zhao for 2021’s “Eternals” and Nia DaCosta for “The Marvels,” which will premiere in July 2023.
