Camilla, wife of Britain’s King Charles III, will wear the tiara of Queen Mary, grandmother of Elizabeth II, and not the Kohinoor tiara at the coronation ceremony, Buckingham Palace has announced.

It is the first time an existing crown will be used to crown a royal wife rather than a “new crown” being made, Buckingham Palace said, and this is for “sustainability and efficiency reasons”.

It was made by luxury jewelry designer Garrard in 1911 with 2,200 diamonds and was worn by Queen Mary at her husband’s coronation.

As a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, Cullinan diamonds from the late Queen’s jewelery collection, which she often wore as brooches, will be added to the crown.
