Taylor Swift is well known and known for breaking records in the music industry, but Billy Joel is convinced that she is more than that.
“He’s like the Beatles of this generation,” he said in an interview with USA Today, announcing his return to Madison Square Garden. The venue has been hosting his appearances since 2014 and Joel has already announced his appearances schedule for the summer of 2022.
The singer also said that he is familiar with the music of the younger generation and, as he noted, he owes this to his children.
“There are a lot of young people who look back and like their parents’ music, which is a strange phenomenon,” he said. “I will be in the car with my children, we turn on the radio and then I can hear a reference to me.”
“Taylor Swift is a very talented girl and she is productive and continues to come up with great ideas and songs. “It’s huge,” he said of the singer.
Although many pop star fans agreed with Joel, there were many Twitter users who expressed their disagreement.
“Taylor Swift is not even close to the Beatles. “The Beatles are the most iconic, revolutionary and most important music band in history,” a Twitter user wrote. “Taylor is just a pop singer. “Do not misunderstand me, I love Taylor, but she is not even in the same galaxy as the Beatles.”
