Boccioni’s sculpture was donated by the National Gallery of Cosenza, while the two runners were “on loan” from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli
In the third and final part of the “Italia” trilogy, Matthieu Blazy, creative director at the house Bottega Venetaused a sculpture of the futurist for the backdrop of the FW23 collection show Umberto Boccioni and two Roman of the 1st BC. century.
Boccioni’s sculpture was offered by the National Gallery of Cosenza, while the two runners excavated in 1754 from the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum were “on loan” from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. The three statues—one of Blazy’s favorites—were placed on a giant carpet designed in imitation of the art director’s favorite chocolate “flecked” ice cream.
The idea of the defile between the sculptures was conceived as a parade, in which techniques, motifs, characters and beings from the past travel through space and time to speak to the present and the future.
“I loved the idea of the parade in Italy; a procession, a strange carnival, a crowd of people from anywhere and everywhere and yet somehow they all fit together and go in the same direction. I wanted to see what makes people come together in a place without hierarchy, where everyone is invited,” said 38-year-old Paris-born and raised Matthieu Blazy.
