José Mayer returns to the hospital four days after being discharged: ‘The fight continues’

Four days after being discharged from a hospitalization of almost two weeks due to a “respiratory indisposition”, José Mayer, 73, returned to the hospital this Friday (3). The actor shared the news on a social network revealing that he was on the penultimate infusion to treat an autoimmune disease. In 2017, he was diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis, a disorder that affects blood vessels in the kidneys, lungs and airways.

In the video, the actor began: “Good morning, friends. Do you think it’s easy? It’s not. Here I am, following my health recovery protocol. Trying to disconnect, and almost succeeding, from that illness that befell me in 2017, in those disastrous events. The disease is called Wegener’s Granulomatosis and it is complicated, but it has treatment”, he explained.

José Mayer thanked the fans for their messages of strength and even used good humor to joke about the procedure. “While I’m here continuing the treatment, look at this beautiful view of Botafogo Cove. Our beloved idol, singer Roberto Carlos, lives there. I can’t wave to him from my window. But that’s it, let’s keep going. A few days ago, he revealed that he had become ill because of the accusation of harassment against a Globo employee, in 2017, during the soap opera “A Lei do Amor”. Mayer was fired from the broadcaster with more than 35 years at home and acknowledged that the recent hospitalization was a “recurrence” of the autoimmune disease. “Those events brought me a health problem and also led me to cancel my career after 49 years of hard work, with only one year left to celebrate my 50 years of work as an actor.
