“In Between” is the title of his new solo painting exhibition Jason Venetsanopoulos which opens today (9/3) at Megaro Lykiardopoulos (Amalias 36) in which the creator adds another dimension to his work and invites us to explore the intermediate space between art and psychotherapy.

In his fourth solo painting exhibition in a row, Iason Venetsanopoulos presents a new set of works, which are both a continuation and an enhanced creative development of his career so far. The exhibition includes a new collection of large canvases, selections of bold pop colors but also the artist’s classic “obsession” with the black background, works of ink on handmade paper with subtleties and poetic sensibilities, as well as a series of paintings on metal, which hovering between painting and sculpture.

At the same time, the artist introduces himself as a mental health counselor in addition to being a painter, interestingly introducing this quality into his work, and discusses the way in which these two sides of him coexist and influence each other.

“The idea of the exhibition, together with the works, was developed and created within three years. These are projects in which I combine different techniques. Some are on black canvas, others are on handmade paper and some are on metal with marble. The theme “In Between” appears sometimes in an obvious way and sometimes very subtly in all the works which always in some way concern the human figure, either alone or among creatures” says Iason Venetsanopoulos. Regarding how art and psychotherapy can interact, he points out that “psychotherapy needs art and art hides within it psychotherapy for the creator, as well as for the viewer. Since one sees, one intervenes with one’s own gaze on the work, changing it”.

The exhibition is also framed by workshops (workshops), with free participation (after pre-booking), related to psychotherapy and its relationship with art, serving the artist’s purpose for the exhibition to be a pole of attraction for experiential experience and intellectual contemplation.

In this context, Iason Venetsanopoulos himself explores the thematic “In Between” between his two qualities, that of painter and that of mental health counselor and invites us to something more than viewing the works. Together with Vicky Adamou, Elena Papastathopoulou and Olga Eleftheriou, they invite the public to search together for the intermediate space between viewing a work of art and meeting ourselves, with the support of the platform of psychotherapists and mental health counselors timeforoneself.

Each workshop is designed with a different theme, while all four interactive sessions will explore what happens when we watch a work, what it means when we say we like a work, how much a work changes from viewer to viewer, how painting affects healing and healing painting and finally, how healing art is and how much art is involved in healing.
