Netflix revealed that the actor Gabriel Leone he will play his role Brazilian racing legend Ayrton Senna in an upcoming series about his life.

The streaming service had announced the miniseries for Sena in 2020 and has now confirmed the choice of the actor for the lead role.

Considered one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, Ayrton Senna had a successful career in the sport, winning three world titles and creating a bitter rivalry with his colleague Alain Prost. His legacy is celebrated to this day, 29 years after his tragic death at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

The series, originally planned for eight episodes, will now consist of six parts. Leone, who hails from Rio de Janeiro, is no stranger to the world of… motorsport, having played Alfonso di Portago in the upcoming film Ferrari, which focuses on the life of Enzo Ferrari.

Senna’s life has been the subject of a very successful documentary, entitled ‘Senna’, which won two awards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in 2010. The upcoming mini-series will offer a new look at the driver’s life, giving his fans a glimpse of the personal and professional challenges he faced on his way to the top.

Senna was known for his skill behind the wheel and fierce competitiveness, traits that endeared him to fans and colleagues alike. However, he died tragically at the age of 34 when he crashed during the San Marino Grand Prix. The new miniseries aims to offer a more in-depth look at the man behind the legend, exploring the complex and often tumultuous life of a sporting icon.
