Oscar-winning actress and producer Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth announced Friday that they have made the “difficult decision” to separate after 12 years of marriage.

The couple married in March 2011 at Witherspoon’s ranch in California and welcomed a baby boy, Tennessee James, in September 2012.

“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and will move forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for all that we have created together,” they said in a message posted on Witherspoon’s Instagram account. “Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we begin a new chapter” in our lives, they add.

The American actress has two other children from her marriage to Ryan Phillippe: 23-year-old Ava and 19-year-old Deacon. Witherspoon and Philip divorced in 2007.

Widdespoon, 47, was born in New Orleans and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film ‘Walk the Line’ and has starred and produced several films and television series, including ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘The Morning Show’.
