Karma Bertsen Ling: A Buddhist Stupa in the Mountains of Corinth (vid)

by

On the slopes of Mount Mavro, with an incredible view of the Corinthian Gulf, there is a place that gives you the feeling that you are somewhere in Tibet.

According to Travel Ispiration, this is the Buddhist meditation center “Karma Berchen Ling”, which is one of the four Buddhist centers of the organization of the Diamond Road in Greece.

The idea for the Stucco Kalatsakra was born in 1987, when Lama Ole and his wife Hannah Nydal visited the area, and it was finally built in May 2010 with international assistance.

The meditation center is owned by the Diamond Road Buddhist Foundation, a non-monastic non-monastic organization of Karma Kagyu genealogy, which is one of the four great schools of Tibetan Buddhism and focuses on meditation and through interaction with a competent in the full and immediate experience of the nature of the spirit.

But what does the term Stupa mean in general in Buddhism?

It is an architectural structure like an embankment that has a corridor around it and contains heirlooms, small statues of Buddhists as well as the ashes of the monks that have been cremated.

Its main body is in the form of a bell, which is a symbol of the complete wisdom of the Buddha and is used as a place for meditation-prayer. In fact, according to Buddhism, these constructions inspire man to deal with the development of the spirit and its unlimited possibilities.

In the manicured open space where the Buddhist center is located, there are eight different types of Stupa:

The Lotus Stupa, which symbolizes the birth of the Buddha.

The Stupa of Enlightenment or Overcoming All Obstacles, which expresses the withdrawal of the last veils of the Buddha’s spirit the night before it reaches enlightenment.

The Stupa of Wisdom or the Sixteen Gates, which refers to the Buddha’s teachings on the Four Noble Truths.

The Stupa of Miracles.

The Descent Stupa from Paradise Tushita with the many steps on which the Buddha taught his mother.

The Stupa of Reconciliation or Unity, built to celebrate reconciliation with Buddha Devada’s cousin after some difficulties.

The Stupa of Complete Victory that symbolizes the three-month extension of the Buddha’s lifetime at the request of his disciples, and finally,
the Stupa Parinirvana, which symbolizes the passage of the Buddha to Parinirvana, that is, to the nirvana that occurs after the death of the body of someone who has attained nirvana during his lifetime.

These typical altars with the wonderful white color with the gold upper finish, at first glance look the same. But if one looks at them better one will understand that their common elements are found mainly in the foundations up to the throne of the lions but also in the upper part of the rings and beyond. Because their middle part is what determines the difference of each Stoupa.

The ninth type of Stupa, the Kalatsakra as it is called, dominates the space as a main monument, which is associated with deep teachings about space and time, “The Wheel of Time”, and is one of the highest methods for spiritual evolution and the liberation of man.

Although the meditation center is only for members of the Diamond Road and is not widely known to the public, it attracts dozens of ordinary visitors from all over the country, both for the “experience of the different” and for the wonderful location with absolute tranquility. which offers.
