Gaga in SKAI: Omicron hospitalizations less serious – No new measures considered

The Omicron mutation causes less serious illnesses and hospitalizations in the general population, and especially in those vaccinated with all three doses, said the Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga, speaking to the main news bulletin of SKAI and Nikos Stravelakis.

“There is a percentage of patients that Omicron causes symptoms, such as high fever, but fewer people need, for example, High Flow. “It can threaten immunocompromised people, who have health problems, or those who have not been vaccinated, but lately we have not seen people vaccinated with all three doses have problems,” he said.

He noted that the hospitals and especially the emergency departments may be under pressure, the number of hospitalizations may increase, however the hospitalizations in the ICU remain stable. Indicatively, Ms. Gaga said that samples were taken yesterday from patients from both “Salvation” and “Evangelism” and showed that all the recently intubated people carried the Delta mutation, with the exception of one woman who brought the Omicron, which was nevertheless accidental finding, as he was not hospitalized for coronavirus, but for another disease.

Asked when we will reach the peak of the cases, the Deputy Minister of Health stressed that the forecast models show that this will happen within the next 10 days and in any case in January and the de-escalation will come earlier than originally expected.

Regarding patients who re-enter the coronavirus, he noted that they are more shielded than those who have not been exposed to the virus or have not been vaccinated. “So the previous disease as well as the vaccine is a very powerful weapon to not be vulnerable to this disease,” he explained.

Finally, he ruled out the possibility of taking new measures, as the citizens comply with the measures, there is a great mood for vaccination, but also a huge offer of self-tests.
