The singer Gretchen, 63, gave a strong interview to the Portuguese broadcaster SIC TV. In it, she recalled the years when she says she lived under the same roof with a man who beat her.
According to her, the fact happened more than 35 years ago. At the time, she had a young son whose custody she had to pass to the man after being threatened with a revolver by him.
“When I managed to get away from that relationship, he held a gun to my neck and said, ‘Either you let him [filho] with me, or I kill them both. Give custody of him to me’. I said: ‘First of all, my son’s life’. I passed custody, he took my son away and I see him eventually now that he’s 36,” she said.
According to Gretchen, who did not mention the names of those involved, the man she married was a “psychopath”. “I lived in a golden cage. He was very rich and I was always surrounded by security and a chauffeur,” she recalled.
In the chat, the singer also mentions the day she was threatened in front of her own family. “In Brazil, we have the custom of coming back from the beach and everyone bathing together because it makes it easier. I was going to take a bath with my mother and my sisters, he would pass by my side and say: ‘When they leave, you you’ll see’. I was beaten a lot, I was all scarred.”
Gretchen is currently married to saxophonist Esdras, her 18th husband. The ceremony was held in September 2020.
