A few words about the shapes that stood out in the “Open Platforms”:
Choir on the Stairs
It is a polyphonic ensemble consisting of four choirs and was created in 2016. The project is based on the love for the tradition of the peoples of the world and aims to highlight it through music. The ensemble was created on the steps of the Music School of Ilio, where the members of the band studied, from where it got its name due to the good acoustics that existed there. Then Choir On The Stairs became better known through the YouTube platform. It consists of: Natasha Kay (soprano), Marianna Katsikaki (alto), Kyriakos Bartzioka (tenor) and Vassilis Koutis (bass).
Guitar 4-tune
Guitar quartet founded in 2011. It consists of Andreas Madimenos, Giannis Sofos, Dimitris Klaudianos and Takis Pate. His goal is to explore the repertoire for four guitars and to present works by composers from around the world as well as selected transcripts. He has given concerts inside and outside Athens, while he has taken part in live broadcasts of the Third Program. He has also taken part in well-known guitar festivals and music and dance performances. He has been awarded first prizes in the 1st Panhellenic Music Competition of the Group for the Unesco Speech Arts and Sciences (2013), in the 2nd Karditsa Classical Guitar Festival (2014) and in the 5th Paleo Faliro Guitar Festival (2016). Its members play with guitars by the manufacturer Andreas Madimenos.
Of Embla
The name comes from Ask and Embla in Scandinavian mythology, the first people to walk the Earth. The name Ask refers to the name of a very common tree, while it is believed that Ebla owes its name to another tree. The most famous story says that Ask and Ebla were created, at the same time and equally, from two pieces of wood. They were given many and varied abilities by different gods and came from the earth itself. The band was formed in London at the end of 2013 by Maiken Sundby (vocals) and Nick Athens-Nikos Athanasoulas (glockspin, acoustic guitar, keyboards). Then, Dimitris Vareltzis (drums), Karolos Berachas (electric guitar) and Elias Kampanis (bass, keyboards) were added to its members. Their new album is called “Phases” and refers to the different phases of life. They believe that music is something alive that is created by the world and not by numbers.
