Louis Vuitton and Marc Newson joined forces to reimagine the luxury goods house’s iconic travel trunk in a playful luggage-shaped cabinet composition. The Cabinet of Curiositieswhich was presented as part of this year’s Milan Design Week, pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s recognizable trunk and features Newson’s technicolor hues on the inside.

When the traveler unzips the Cabinet of Curiosities, 19 – full color – removable storage cubes invite him to play with the space and define their arrangement as he sees fit. Each trunk is made by hand, in the house’s workshop.

“Quality, execution, special know-how, without any compromise. It’s a simple idea, a utilitarian and iconic object, giving the user the opportunity to do with it whatever they want. Each of them contains itself, living its own life. “The Cabinet of Curiosities is a box of memories, in three variations. They can be anything, something that is symbolic to you if you are a collector. Even if you’re not, you can do whatever you want with it,” Newson said.

“I wanted to turn things around. It’s not about something that travels, it’s about the items on display inside the trunk, which have traveled and mean something to you,” she confessed.
