Who was Rita Lee in her school years? How was the performance of the queen of rock as a student? Impeccable in singing classes, but with low grades in mathematics and a history of indiscipline in the school report card, according to a report by Fantástico (Globo) aired this Sunday (14) in honor of the singer who died last Monday (8), aged 75.
The report visited Liceu Pasteur, the French-Brazilian school in the south of São Paulo where the artist studied. There, the student did poorly in mathematics and was expelled from the classroom for talking too much. She smoked in the bathroom, threw red paint on the pants of girls she didn’t like to make it look like they were menstruating, and set the theater set on fire when she was passed over for the role of Juliet.
The novelty of the visit to the school was Rita’s bulletin, which records the various warnings she received throughout her school years. In 1962, there is a record of “indiscipline in the class”. In 1963, she was admonished for “severe indiscipline at the classroom door on her way back from recess” and “entering late”. There are also records of times when she did not bring the book to class.
Grades in mathematics were low – she even scored 1.5 – but there is also an exceptional performance in one of the disciplines: orpheonic singing. It’s a column full of 10 notes.
The pedagogical director of Liceu Pasteur, Stella Palmisano, studied at the school at the same time as Rita and tells Fantástico that the singer’s artistic streak was always present. “She had her little guitar, she played, there were people around. She was always very attached to this part of art”, she reports.
