It seems that the Eddie Murphy is set to play the role of Inspector Clouseau in MGM’s upcoming remake of the Pink Panther movie.

Eddie Murphy is currently in talks with movie studio executives.

The reboot will be directed by Jeff Fowler with Chris Bemner writing the script and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich producing through their Rideback label.

The comedy film series originally premiered in 1963 starring Peter Sellers as the iconic Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The actor reprized his role in 1964’s A Shot in the Dark, 1975’s The Return of the Pink Panther, 1976’s The Pink Panther Strikes Again and 1978’s Revenge of the Pink Panther.

Other legendary actors who have played Inspector Clouseau include Alan Arkin, Roger Moore and Steve Martin. Based on the ‘Pink Panther’ film series are books, video games as well as animated series.

The story revolves around a French security inspector in Paris and his adventure to locate a precious pink diamond at the center of a heist.
