He passed away Wednesday 24 May 2023, aged 83, legendary rock and roll singer Tina Turner;. The so-called “Queen of Rock and Roll” breathed her last in Switzerland and specifically at her home, in the town of Kusnacht, near Zurich.

She was born Anna May Bullock on November 26, 1939 in a rural community in Tennessee. Her father was a farm foreman and her mother abandoned the family when the future rock star was just 11 years old.

She began her career in the mid-1950s when she discovered it Ike Turner and changed her name to Tina Turner before they were even married in Tijuana, Mexico. She divorced in 1976, after – as she revealed in her autobiography – she was a victim of marital violence. She eventually got a divorce two years later. In 1985, she met Erwin Bach, with whom she was in a relationship for 27 years, before tying the knot in 2013.

In her multi-year career, she recorded major hits such as ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ and ‘(Simply) The Best’, her albums sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, and she was awarded 12 Grammy Awards. She got her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and her name is included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Despite her brilliance and success, Turner encountered many difficulties in her life. In 1986, in her best-selling autobiography Tina Turner, she revealed the abuse she suffered during her marriage to Ike Turner. In 2017, the singer underwent a kidney transplant and in 2018, her first-born son ended his life at the age of 59.

The duo and their band performed before the Rolling Stones, Elton John and The Who. There was no better show to bring the audience to life. In the late 70s, Tina Turner managed to get a divorce. On the one hand she was relieved, but on the other hand she had to start all over again, as Ike Turner had tied up the legal affairs well and put all the obstacles in her way so that she could not restart her career.
