Paying tribute to one of the music industry’s great losses, New York’s ‘The Shed’ and mixed reality studio ‘Tin Drum’ bring the pioneering songwriter and artist back to the stage through a mix of physical and digital media Ryuichi Sakamoto to play his compositions.

KAGAMI is a new kind of mixed reality concert, which the audience experiences through devices that project the virtual figure of Sakamoto playing one of his latest projects on the piano.

The space immerses viewers in an environment that combines digital performance with the physical world. In the show, there is a combination of moving photography and advanced photography, in order to present the realistic nature of Sakamoto’s figure, presence and performance.

As his fingers ‘dance’ across the piano keys, he is surrounded by visual effects through the lenses worn by the spectators, creating a concert for – and by – the composer. The program includes 10 of his original compositions, including such well-known as “Energy Flow” and “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” but also compositions that he rarely performed such as “The Seed and the Sower”.

The world premiere of the KAGAMI concert is scheduled for June 7th to July 2nd.
