Sharon Stone says she was “abandoned” by Hollywood after the stroke and brain bleed she suffered in 2001. Shockingly, doctors gave her just a 1% chance of survival, and the brain bleed lasted for nine days.

And despite the fact that the famous actress managed to emerge victorious through her difficult battle, today she claims that she struggled to find work for 20 years after her recovery.

I recovered and haven’t found a job since.” Sharon Stone said at THR’s “Raising Our Voices” luncheon. “When it first happened, I didn’t want to tell anyone. Something went wrong with me. I have been out of work for 20 years. I didn’t have a job. At one point in my life I was a very big movie starStone explained.

The 65-year-old actress went on to recall the times in her career when she had to stand up for herself and become her own advocate. “I broke a lot of “glass ceilings” on top of my head,” she said, implying that this had a negative impact on her career.

I want to tell you that this hurt and I paid for it. It hurt to fight the studio heads. It hurt to set boundaries. Limits on who could come to my caravan and what they could ask for».

Stone added: “It pains me to say that I, like any company, had the opportunity to have my lawyer read my contract and that I shouldn’t have started the show by signing my unread contract in the makeup trailer».

With diversity being one of the central themes of the event, Sharon Stone spoke about the importance of self-protection. “Diversity can mean more than one thing. Diversity can be an injury, diversity can be the color of your skin, diversity can mean standing up for yourself».

After detailing her work with the World Health Organization and the United Nations, the actress encouraged people to stand up for themselves in whatever they do.

After a successful career as a model, Sharon Stone managed to break out in Hollywood by starring in films such as Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), The Quick And The Dead (1995), Casino (1995), which resulting in an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, Sphere (1998) and the acclaimed HBO series Mosaic, among many others.
