Its cost was estimated to reach 188 million dollars
Its remake Apple TV+ of the classic science fiction film “Metropolis” of 1927 by Fritz Lang was cancelled. The major project was in pre-production in Melbourne when NBCUniversal’s Universal Studio Group announced that the eight-episode series would not go ahead.
The cancellation is due to the screenwriters’ strike in the US, as the drafts of the scripts were not completed, when it was announced in May that members of the Writers Guild of America were going to strike over pay cuts.

Sam Esmail was chosen to direct the series, and Briana Middleton and Lindy Booth would star. Its cost was estimated to reach 188 million dollars, according to a report in “The Guardian” newspaper.
Considered by many critics to be one of the greatest science fiction films of all time, Metropolis deals with themes such as class conflict, industrialization and the dangers of mechanized modernity.
The series would be filmed at Melbourne’s Docklands Studios with funding from the Victorian State Government and the Australian Federal Government.
