The model, who has already claimed to believe in her ex-partner’s innocence, continued: “Relationship is one thing. He is my family. It’s been 8 years together, I’m going to stay close, like it or not.”

Still in the interview, Daniel acknowledged that he lied in the different versions of his testimonies and justified the attitude because he feared that his marriage to model Joana Sanz would be affected. He maintains the story that the sexual act was consensual. “If anyone has ever really loved, if they’ve known true love like I did, they’ll know that to keep that love, we’ll do anything. I lied. I was afraid of losing Joana and that’s why I lied”.

He stated that even if he is convicted, he will face the process with a clear conscience. “Even if I’m convicted and spend the years here (in prison) the years I have to spend, I’ll walk out that door with my head held high, asking for forgiveness only to the only person I owe an apology to, my wife Joana”, commented Daniel.

According to the Spanish press, the trial is expected to take place between the end of October and the beginning of November. Since he was arrested, Daniel Alves has had three requests for provisional release denied, the last one in early June.
