Thales Bretas talks about the lack of Paulo Gustavo in raising children

by

Dermatologist Thales Bretas, widower of Paulo Gustavo, told in Papo de Segunda (GNT) that he misses her husband when it comes to raising the couple’s two children, Romeu and Gael, who are almost 4 years old.

“I miss exchanging and not having the sole responsibility of educating or diseducating,” he said.

He revealed, during the conversation, that the comedian was strict with children in a similar way to Dona Hermínia, Paulo Gustavo’s most famous character and inspired by his mother, Déa Lúcia Amaral.

“This mother he played in the movies was a more strict mother. Who loved a lot, but who set limits”, he recalled.

Without her husband, who died in 2021, aged 42, a victim of Covid, this role always remains with the doctor, who raises the two children alone. “I’m always the boring one.”

One of these “boring” conversations took place before Thales recorded the program, after one of the boys accidentally slammed the door on his brother. According to him, it was a “brain talk” with the children about respect for the other’s body.

“Education is very difficult, especially without a partner,” he said. For him, it would be important to share responsibility, even though there are conflicts due to different luggage.

Despite the difficulties, he said that he finds it cute and enjoyable to witness the development of his children and talk to them both.

Thales also gave tips on how to welcome people who have just come out as homosexuals.

“It’s giving love. Many times the person still has a little difficulty approaching this, perhaps out of shame, out of fear of not being accepted,” he said. In his opinion, it can be nice to ask if the person wants to say something and express support.
