On August 24, the summer event of the School Museum of the Municipality of Rethymno will have an anniversary character on the occasion of the completion of 10 years of fruitful operation, according to the municipal authority.

The Ephorate Council set Thursday, August 24, 2023, as the date of the event, which will take place in the courtyard of the School Museum in the cool Amnatos, with the program including a number of thematic activities such as: “… guided tours of the exhibition and archive area, in the simulation room, in the farm garden and in the zoo, projection of images combined with explanatory-informative speech, experiential activities similar to those carried out in the life education programs, music, singing, role-playing (teachers and students) and many more surprises”.

The special feature of this year’s event, which makes it even more interesting, is its anniversary character: “Participants in the planned events will have the opportunity to become shareholders of the School Museum’s overall offer, during its 10-year operation, in educational programs , journals, publications, exhibitions and historical tours.

Especially in the field of educational programs, it is worth pointing out that it offers students of all ages (toddlers, children, teenagers, students) but also adults as well as families, the opportunity to participate in 11 different programs”, is emphasized by the prefectural council while pointing out how: “On the occasion of the anniversary event, visitors will see the obvious upgrading of the School Museum’s premises, given that its architectural program is nearing completion, with the completion of the configuration of the exhibition space and the courtyard, with an amphitheater, a farm garden, zoo, garden of aromatic plants, etc.’

Indicative of the multi-thematic and essential contribution that the DR School Museum serves and achieves in saving and highlighting the local educational history, in addition to the programs it implements over the course of the year, is also the theme it adopts and supports in each of its summer events.

As the president of the Ephorate Council Stelios Spanoudakis reports, “until today he has focused on the introduction of natural sciences in the primary education of Rethymno, in Cretan textbooks, on the pioneering teachers of Crete, on the contribution of teachers to the education and progress of the place, on contribution of the Unified Polytechnic High School and to the education of Rethymno before and after the arrival of the Asia Minor refugees”.
